On the Passing of Rear Admiral Eugene B. Fluckey

June 28, 2007 saw the passing of one of this Nation's greatest heroes, Rear Adm. Eugene B. Fluckey.

Matt Schudel's eloquent and moving obituary in the Washington Post (HT: INDC) chronicles Flukey's many military accomplishments and service which includes this amazing fact:
...In addition to the Medal of Honor and Navy Crosses (second only to the Medal of Honor), Adm. Fluckey received the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit and a host of lesser decorations. His greatest achievement, he often said, was that no one under his command ever received another well-known medal: the Purple Heart...
Mr. Schudel certainly must have felt honored to write Eugene Flukey's obituary and you in turn will have the honor of reading about this great American.
