R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Boise wins Fiesta Bowl

Hopefully you were lucky enough to view one of the best college games of all times. (Voting is going on now at ESPN) If not, the DVD will soon be available.

Boise State defeated mighty Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain) 43 -42. To put this game in perspective, think of the 1982 Stanford - Cal game with its game-ending multiple laterals and a run into the Stanford Band (video)...hold that thought...now multiply it by 3.

The Fiesta Bowl had at least 3 plays of that caliber all within the last 5 minutes-or-so of the game's end. This is on top of what was already a cinderella-like performance by Boise as they led Oklahoma for a majority of the game.

If you watched this game and did not jump out of your seat at least 2 times...check yourself for a pulse.

Non-BCS-Conference-Boise State not only finished the season undefeated (13-0), but also totally turns the non-playoff format of the Bowl Championship Series on its head, prompting many to call for its demise.

Oh, and by the way...one of the Boise stars of the game also proposes to his cheerleader girlfriend at the end of the game.

Here's a good overview of the game: Broncos earn respect with improbable victory, an excellent article by Pat Forde on ESPN.com
