Meet the new Hammer, same as the old Hammer

The Hill is reporting that House Majority Leader John Boehner is delivering ultimatums to his Republican colleagues (HT: BizzyBlog via email):

House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) delivered an ultimatum to his Republican colleagues yesterday that they must approve the upcoming budget resolution.

Boehner told members during their weekly closed-door conference meeting that they must “put their minds around the fact that they have to vote for the budget” measure, said one member in attendance.

If this report is accurate, Boehner is picking up where Tom (The Hammer) DeLay left off in imposing party discipline over the objections of fiscal conservatives.

What are we to make of a budget resolution (Legislative: text, report) that out of the gate proposes $310 billion more in deficit spending ($2.732 trillion in spending, $2.422 trillion in revenue) which adds to

(Our National Debt)

The Republicans Boehner is asking kowtow obedience from are none other than the 38 members of the Republican Study Committee that have submitted their own (dare we say it?) balanced budget proposal (RSC FY2007 Budget, Budget Overview & Sample Program Terminations).

Such obedience will be just another nail hammered into the coffin of our 'Do as we say, not as we do party' that has lost all claim to fiscal conservatism. Speaker we come.

I was afraid you were going to say that.

I wonder what the earmarks content of Mr. No-Earmarks' pet budget is? I think I'm right that we can't find out with outside-the-net digging thanks to Sen. Trent Lott.
