Go to the cspan videocast. at about 106.30 minutes, Ryan says that "we have more proven oil reserves in the ground in north america, IN THIS COUNTRY, than is in Saudi Arabia." He then went on to insinuate that if liberals just let us drill that oil we'd be fine.

WHAT A JACKASS! A simple google search would tell you that the US has about 21 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, WHILE sAUDI ARABIA HAS OVER 260 BILLION BARRELS OF PROVEN RESERVE!

This man was either lying, and thus, part of the Great Republican Myth Machine, or he really believes that and is a buffoon.

Congressman Ryan's belief that we have more proven oil reserves in the US than Saudi Arabia proves that he is uniquely UNQUALIFIED to help the US works its way out of this energy crisis.

The sooner we can vote him and the nutball Republicans like him out of office the sooner we can start dealing with the facts and address a real energy policy for this country.

North America includes Canada and New Mexico...Canada has huge oil reserves in the oil sands.

"A recent recalculation has revealed that the amount of oil buried underneath the ground in Northern Alberta was not millions of barrels - but trillions. Alberta's internationally recognised reserves are now put at 175 billion barrels of crude. Only Saudi Arabia has bigger reserves."

So when you include what's in Alaska, offshore (both coasts), Gulf of Mexico and Mexico itself...Mr. Ryan is probably accurate.
