2007 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Earmarks in the Ohio 2nd Congressional District
A closer look at the Sunlight Foundation's database of earmarks in the 2007 appropriations bill for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (H.R.5647: details of the earmarks can be found in the House Report 109-515) reveals that Congresswoman Jean Schmidt's 2nd Congressional District has the following spending designated:
- $350,000: Shawnee State University for purchase of equipment at the Motion Capture Facility in Portsmouth, Ohio
- $200,000: Southern Ohio Health Services Network for information technology equipment in Milford, Ohio
- $100,000: Adams County Hospital for facilities and equipment in West Union, Ohio
The $350,000 for Shawnee State is on top of the $1.05 million already passed by the House in H.R. 5427. Schmidt took credit for this initial spending appropriations. From House Report 109-474:
...The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is a regional economic development agency established in 1965. It is comprised of the Governors of the thirteen Appalachian States and has a Federal co chairman, who is appointed by the President. For fiscal year 2007, the budget includes $65,472,000, of which $54,079,000 is for program development; $5,301,000 is local development districts and technical assistance; and $5,437,000 is for salaries and expenses...
...Within the funds provided, the Committee has included the following activities: Portsmouth, OH, Shawnee State University Motion Capture Facility : $1,050,000...
