Two great sites for statistics and putting U.S. oil consumption in perspective

Nationmaster.com and BP's Statistical Review of World Energy 2005 are two statisitic rich sites that are very easy to use with lots of interactive (build-your-own) graphics.

The BP site contains papers, interactive graphics, PowerPoints, videos, spreadsheets and conversion calculators...a very impressive collection of information.

Two charts that will help put the U.S. oil usage in perspective are Oil Consumption - Million tonnes (U.S. is #1 in consumption) and Oil Consumption - Million tonnes (per $ GDP) (U.S. is 26 in consumption per dollar of Gross Demostic Product output).

In other words, we use a lot of oil, but we produce a lot of economic output with the oil we use.
